About This Design
Embroidery does not do subtlety. Every colour is a separate thread and every thread has a minimum width, which means the pale hair, the paler skin and the white shirt all had to be pulled apart until they stopped reading as one continuous blur. The fix was the black outline — heavier than we would draw it on paper, and the only reason he still looks like himself at 80mm.
The cape is the part we are quietest about. It sits outside the die-cut line and had to be stitched at a different density so it would hold its shape without curling, which is the sort of problem you do not anticipate until the first sample arrives looking like a wilted leaf.
Hook and loop rather than iron-on, because the point of a patch is being able to move it. Iron-on is permanent, and a jacket is not a permanent decision.
Drawn in-house, by hand, by people who have absolutely lost sleep over this game.
