About This Design
We drew Shadowheart holding a D20 up to eye level, which is where the design started and where the whole thing nearly fell apart.
Chibi proportions are forgiving on paper and much less forgiving in felt. Her eyes had to be cut three times before she stopped looking startled and started looking properly unimpressed.
Unlike a flat printed charm, every section of this Shadowheart design is made from separate pieces of felt.
The hair sits above the face.
The face sits above the collar.
Smaller stitched details bring the layers together.
Felt cannot hold extremely fine lines in the same way acrylic or printed artwork can, so the character had to be redesigned specifically around shape, layering, colour, and stitching.
That limitation is also what makes the finished piece different.
It feels softer and more handmade than the harder collectibles in the rest of the shop, while still keeping Shadowheart recognisable as a tiny chibi companion holding her D20.
The artwork was drawn completely in-house by our artist before being adapted into the layered felt construction.
